Eating food that’s wholesome, safe and plentiful is a basic expectation we all share. At our dinner tables, in our children’s lunchrooms and at neighborhood restaurants, we all take for granted the inherent safety of the food we consume daily.
How is it that food, which is such an integral part our health, happiness and families, can so easily be consumed without worry about its safety? It’s because of the men and women working diligently and silently – from farm to fork – to make sure the food is up to the standards we expect in our society. The protectors of our food supply, especially those working with the animals that will provide meat and dairy products so essential to fulfilling our dietary needs, utilize years of training in science and health to assure the promise of food safety.
But what happens when the tools, rules, and technology supporting these professionals become, themselves, in danger? How can we best guarantee that the food animal experts can do their jobs and protect our food supply? How can we expand and best ready the pool of veterinarians who guarantee this basic promise?
We're working through this site to ensure that food remains safe for years to come, and we need your help. By strengthening the network of rules and regulations that support the safety of the meat and dairy products we eat, we can continue to feel secure in the quality of our food. By working together to let our elected officials know that these issues demand priority and primacy, we can make sure that each bite of food is safe – today and for years to come.
Take a look at some of the key issues affecting our food supply and learn about the pieces of legislation critical to food safety.
